SCR Family Built & Operated

A Texas Barn Wedding Venue

Our Story

Welcome to The Barn at Sparrow Creek Ranch, a Texas barn wedding venue; we still can’t believe we’re here.

Kevin & Kalli, Father-Daughter duo at SCR

Here’s the truth, in 2011 there were zero options for an outdoor ceremony and elegant reception in my hometown, Graham, TX. So, the short story is my dad built it for us. We helped and so did lots of family and friends along the way, too! Once it was built my dad and I have kept running SCR, and adding on to it as we go, as a passion project to help other couples in our area who are looking for that elegant ranch option. We host couples from all over the country but are a convenient location for guests coming from across the area that stretches from Wichita Falls through Stephenville, down to San Angelo, and out west to Abilene, Midland, and Amarillo. This section of Texas deserves gorgeous venues too.

My dad, Kevin bought the land for my mom, Linda's, birthday in 2006 as a place to retire one day and gather with family as their daughters moved off to college. It was a family gathering place for bonfires and holidays for several years.

Kevin works in the salvage and re-purposing business, and Linda is a lifelong antique collector. Together, their vision created the industrial, vintage, rustic, but elegant space that is now The Barn at Sparrow Creek Ranch.

The Barn is constructed using re-purposed materials from Kevin's salvage work, giving it a truly unique look and design. The outside tin was originally part of a very old barn that was being torn down, in addition to time from the roof of the high school gym that was replaced. The wood has been re-purposed from barns, homes, and industrial areas all over north Texas, and keep an eye out for the very cool beams that were re-purposed from an old bridge. The doors, lighting, bathroom elements and everything else besides the concrete floor is re-purposed material giving the entire barn a feeling of history and rustic elegance. Of course, the more than a dozen antique brass chandeliers throughout the barn bring this all to life!

Without everyone’s commitment, this would not have been possible. I have never seen a family work so hard for a wedding; the entire family and many friends (extended family) were here clearing land, building structures, and sweeping the floors up until the day before my wedding.

We are a small team, and SCR is built intentionally and with incredible materials. Consequently, SCR is unique and spectacular but slower and not as large scale as other venues. If hand-built, re-purposed, and family-centered are your cup of tea, SCR is calling your name!

Can’t wait to share it with you,

Kalli, first SCR bride

KEVIN

Builder, Dad

When you come for a tour, you are most likely going to get to see SCR with Kevin, who’s the man behind the design.

"Handmade" isn't usually attached to buildings. But it's true for SCR. My dad has worked in the salvage industry for over 30 years, meaning his days are about finding new homes for used mechanical things. At SCR, wherever you look, you see a work of art handmade with purposes, passion, and an artistic eye for re-purposing.

There were no blueprints drawn up for SCR. There is no timeline or guild for what he builds or adds next. It's a work in progress that changes direction depending on the materials at hand and his ever-growing imagination.

Most venues are "purpose build." This means someone purchased plans and had a team come in and build a structure for a specific purpose. We built SCR for our family. It is made with a long-term goal of fellowship, family, and laughter.

KALLI

First SCR Bride & Director

I’ve worked alongside my dad since I was old enough to pull a wagon. Turning SCR into a venue has been a dream working with my dad and seeing couples light up on his incredible work. I walk our couples through the booking process and help along the way however I can. I also have a handy husband who has put more than a few beams in at SCR.

A little about me: I have my Ph.D. from UT-Austin and traveled solo across India chasing tigers and catching cobras. I spent extensive time in Rajasthan for my research into Human-Tiger Conflict, and have published extensively on the subject. While my intended professor career did not come to fruition, God had an even more beautiful plan for my life. Building SCR gave me the skills to also build and manage a venue in Bastrop, TX. I now manage both SCR and Shiraz Garden, assisting 100s of couples through their wedding planning process each year. I have several

entrepreneurial prusiuts underway and love my creative life, serving the Lord in the roles he made me for.

ALLEN

Right-hand Man

First and foremost, Allen is the man. He has been dad, aka Kevin’s, building counterpart for the last several years. These two men spend several nights away working away to make new creations out of the old by repurposing wood, iron, steel, farm equipment, and more into something remarkable. They are truly inspiring as they create incredible feats of design come to life.

Look forward to seeing Allen on Fridays before your event and likely anytime you come out to see us.

CONSTANCE

First Maid-of-Honor & Designer

An all-around artistic sole, Constance, aka little sister, spent countless hours helping build SCR. From brush clearing to chandelier hanging, she’s done it all. But on the daily, you’ll find her influence in SCR’s design as a touchstone for direction when Kevin comes to a design-making moment. She’s got her hand in all the steps, look forward to meeting her at our next Open House!

LINDA

Mom & Treasure Finder

Linda has an eye for a diamond in the rough, and you can see that in our unique chandeliers and most of the furniture are SCR. Her insight and counsel are a guiding hand for all of SCR.
